U3A is a self-help, self funded and social organization. In the Wairarapa more than 100 members are involved in 17 groups which range from French Conversation to Philosophy. We confer no degrees but study and learn for the fun of it.
The U3A was founded in France in 1973 and came to New Zealand in 1989. U3A has the aim of providing a learning for life structure, specifically for those in the older age group and no longer in full time employment. The U3A provides an avenue for life-long learning for these semi-retired and retired people. It is an international movement with groups in the USA, UK, Australia, France, Netherlands, Canada, and elsewhere. In New Zealand there are many groups throughout the country.
In the Wairarapa, the U3A provides a variety of different interest groups, as well as occasional lectures and social events. If you would like to * Pursue more interests, *Keep the 'grey matter' active, and *Enjoy good company with like-minded people, then 'join up and join in' ! We look forward to seeing you.
